SOUTO DE MOURA

The Cultural Center of Viana do Castelo located on the bank of the Lima river is a giant machine designed by Eduardo Souto de Moura.
In his DNA we can find the influence of reflection in the water of the Eiffel Bridge and Ship Hospital Gil Eanes, two neighbors near the building.
In the same place where we see the Municipal Library designed by Siza Vieira and two buildings by Fernando Távora, this building creates a constant dialogue with the river, lies down on the bank and let us see the transparency of its interior, art, sport, music and above all, life. In Viana do Castelo, that has already been called ” meca of architecture”, this new building completes an area on the river waterfront were we can find buildings from the two pritzkers.
